LMAO !!!

good post spec.

i can just imagine some user's following that and doing it.

i'm also in IT, but looking for work in my field.

i've sense gotten a somewhat general laborer job that takes almost no thought. although it seems that too much of that no thought is really going around seeing how some of the boxes are packed. i'm really serious. any intellegence over a 4th grader know's u can't put several small things in a box that's not taped yet unless u don't care if they fall out. children's books are small and unless they are bundled together don't carry much weight, and quite often i'd get a box where all of the items are under the bottom level of support flaps.

I worked IT and MIS for a couple different companies and a university, I have to say the university was the worst. You would think that "educated" people would be, well, um, educated... But you would be wrong. I had more UI problems (user incompetence problems) than at any of my other jobs. Damn I hated working with people who didn't know how to switch on a machine but thought that their Phd enabled them to tell you about the latest greatest computer tool called "defrag". Well there is my vent.

If you want some good IT humor, there was an IT comedy group who I believe were called "two dead trolls in a baggy." They did a comedy routine at an electronics convention in Chicago and it was hilarious. I think you can still find it on the web...

Fel, Is it done yet? Probably not, but I don't have anything better to do! Is it done yet? Probably not, but I don't have anything better to do! Ahhh, its done... dang, now what am I going to read???
New books! Yay! let the nagging begin! Is it done yet? Probably not, but I don't have anything better to do! Is it done yet? Probably not, but I don't have anything better to do!...

True, I really have nothing better to do in my free time, I mean, what could be better than reading Fel's stories or being messed with by Spec? Thanks for the fun spec!

I work for a university and I don't find it too bad. Then again most of what I do is password changes and basic troubleshooting for undergrads and they tend to have a reasonable amount of tech savvy. But then again I must admit there are a few who don't know anything but they seem to be a minority.

I would, however, like to disagree. I used to work for an IT support line for a university, and our Freshman were not tech savvy. They were the ones most likely to do something stupid.

I graduated with a BS in Computer Information Systems in May of 2000. Ooops. While I was going to college, there was a Dr of C. I. S. who was not allowed to open up the case on his computers. Cuz, after he worked on it, the computer REALLY needed to be repaired.

and oe of the most interesting errors that persists to this day:

" system error: No keyboard present: Press F1 to continue"

One wonders where F1 is found when there is no keyboard present.
"Bachelors should be heavily taxed. It is not fair that some men should be happier than others." - Oscar Wilde

What actually happened was that George Dubya Bush saw an Iraqi maths teacher carrying a geometry set, accused him of being a member of the notorious Al-gebra movement, and charged him with possessing weapons of maths instruction.

unfortunately that's somewhat of a mis-nomer. if your using ps2 keyboards and mice then you have to reset the system to clear the ps2 queue. otherwise if your using a usb keyboard then it's probably setup wrong in the system bios. so in other words you gotta hook up a 'ancient' ps2 keyboard and get into the bios on startup. then you can set where it searches for your keyboard. although most of the time if your able to finish loading whatever OS your using then you can change what it looks for in a keyboard.

although older versions of WinBLOWS i'm sure don't support usb keyboards. and of course DOS doesn't either. but linux, sun ?, and win xp support usb keyboards as far as i know. and possibly older versions of sun's solarius won't recognize the usb. solarius if your build it on an intel chipset, atleast one released after 2002 (last time i checked the specs actually), will have usb support. although good luck finding support for your intel sun box cause most of the time for me i'd re-build it into a linux box cause driver's for a lot of stuff will be able to be built in linux but not solarius for some reason. (quite possibly, their wasn't one made yet for solarius though.)

so I'd have to say any OS published or released before 1998 or so when the usb 1.1 standard was emplemented will not have usb support at all.
