Allia and Kerri can only understand Tarrin when he speaks in the manner of the Cat, they can't talk back, right?

"Allia!"

She turned around, and he saw her mouth move, but he couldn't hear her. "Allia, get Sevren!" he told her in the manner of the Cat. She spoke again, then started moving forward. "I can't hear you!" he told her. "I'm stuck in some kind of magical wall!" He banged his paws against the invisible barrier to emphasize his point. "Get Sevren, Allia! Get him now!" Tarrin's fear and anger were rising, quickly, and it was obviously starting to show on his face.

"Calm yourself, my brother," she replied in the manner of the Cat. "Just stay calm.

Just noting. Chapter 10 Tower of Sorcery, near the end.

Maybe, the ward prevented him from talking to her in the manner of the cat, but maybe it didn't block things coming into it...

Instead of "in the manner of the cat" substitute "in the selani hand code" and it works perfectly.

I hate to give a cop out answer but there could be another possiblity: It could be a forshadow of the shaeram's ability to communicate long distances between shaerams

She got it near the end of chapter 9 the communication was at the end of chapter 10
